How to Pick Players

League Background

First, find out how the League you are joining is arranged. If it is a Game-By-Game layout you will want to favor consistent athletes over those that have a few really great games and then slump. Or this may be your strategy if you can find players that overachieve at right time. If you are in an overall Total league, you will want someone who can generate you the most points over the season.

After, this you need to find out how the League Commissioner has chosen to award points, using basic Point-for-Point scoring or Performance scoring. If the League is using basic scoring there's no need to choose people that have a poor chance of ever getting a point.

Finally, you want to see if there is a Position Quota. If there is, you will need to rank your players by position and decide what positions will generate you the most points and go after them first, or you may decide to choose from another position if you feel the managers in your league will be choosing from a certain position.

After you come up with a strategy for how you will be picking, go to the Pick Players page. This page will give you the option of joining a League, picking players for your team, and naming your teams.

Picking a League and a team

The main SportPools.ca Fantasy Football site has a basic Point-for-Point league, without a Position Quota where you can choose any player to be a member of your team, and no trading throughout the season. This league runs for 17 weeks and points are tallied after the last game of the weekend (usually Tuesdays) for interim standings. Some teams you will compete against will have the same players you have chosen.

You may choose to join a Fantasy Football League setup by a League Commissioner. The Leagues that you are able to join are listed in your Open Leagues table. Select one to join, and then follow the instructions on how you need to prepare a draft list, whether you are drafting online, and any other league requirements your League Commissioner requires.

Picking your team roster or a drafting order is done in the player console. Manipulate the player pool by choosing the presentation you want: sort by basic points, sort by rushing, etc. Then click on the Select button to move the player into your draft list. After you have made a large number of choices you can then order the other players remaining in your pool and merge them to the end of your select list. This will give the online draft engine choices if your top picks are picked by others.

Don't forget to name your team!
